hagrinBPR Review Date: 2024-08-01 08:21:11
Rating: 7.75

Notes:
This is actually a really good idea for a pod because there is some value in helping people best utilize their limited time to find the best content and avoid the misses. Pizz / Knish rapport remains incredible.

159 episodes, 82 guest episodes.

6:40 - S Tier Eps:
1) Ep 81 - Matt Trenhaile - Knish's favorite episode ever. "He takes incredibly complex concepts and makes them easier to understand." Rob agrees. (I completely agree).
2) Ep 11 - AbnormallyDistributed - "The rarity. It's a One of a Kind." Rob mentions that this was sort of the podcast that let him know they were on the right track with the podcast being a good endeavor. (I completely agree.)
Then there's a gap - these two stand alone. "No close 3rd."
Rob brings up -
3) Ep 95 - Berryhorse 1 - Rob thought "this was a certified banger". Knish "thought it was good, not in the elite tier".
4) Ep 121 - Shipper - "You think I'm putting one of the Aussies in the elite tier." - Knish.
Rob Honorable Mentions -
5) Ep 61 - Chris Bennett of Circa
6) Ep 74 - Ferris - Mover pod

21:15 - Overrated Episodes:
1) Ep 88 - The Fezzik / Blue Horseshoe episode - "This was Johnny's virtuoso episode." "I was so uncomfortable." - Rob. "It was like a Maury episode." - Knish
2) Ep 100 - RAS Ed Golden - "It kills him to give away any edge. You're not going to get anything good at him ever. He ran RAS like the CIA." - Knish
3) Ep 129 - GiantsBadgers - Interesting, Rob thought he did a bad job with the interview. "Being in the chair is different than being on the outside listening" (paraphrasing). "As a direct competitor, I don't mind calling that overrated." - Knish (lol).
4) Ep 137 - Gambling Frank Costanza - "A dud of an interview. The Twitter account hasn't been the same." - Knish
5) Ep 79 - Jeff Benson / JJ Gruden - "I wanted more, too much agreeance." - Knish. "15-20 minutes in he was completed defeated." - Rob

39:20 - Underrated Episodes:
1) Ep 153 - Dennycaps - "Some of the underrated factor is it's horse racing."
2) Ep 150 - VHP - "Such a great storyteller." "Actually did very well for us, maybe not underrated." - Rob
3) Ep 48 & 152 - Telemachus - Rob makes an interesting point here about "if you're getting all 9s from hagrinBPR we're doing something wrong". He's obviously right which makes me really question this entire approach to this endeavor.
4) Ep 19 - Rob pick, Eddie Walls. College football, audio only. Knish "I hate that one, we're like oil and water".
5) Ep 83 - Rob pick, PiskyPositivo. "Wait I didn't know we are already up to WOAT" - Knish. "If he just stopped tweeting, I'd be all in on Pisky."
6) Ep 110 - Jeff Ma, "most underrated of all time" - Rob. 55:00 - Holy loooool, Knish did it the madman he brings up The Lost Episode of Bet The Process (an episode I have downloaded that I will sell like the unreleased Wu Tang album 30 years from now).
7) Ep 126-127 - Dr Eric Eager 126, Antonino De Rosa "the best two episode stretch" - Rob. (Couldn't agree more, both are very smart people). (Interestingly, Rob said these episodes did not do well, that's criminal, if you're reading these, I'd check those two episodes out).
8) Ep 114 - callcustservice - From Producer Zack (agreed, if anyone isn't familiar with him, that's a must listen, very entertaining).

1:03:25 - WOAT Episodes
1) Ep 145 - Alan Boston - "I don't want to hear anything he has to say. I don't think he has an edge anymore. I don't find the story that fascinating anymore." (So I rated this one highly because of the entertainment value and because he's a quote machine, but this is an extremely fair criticism from Knish.) "I've had my lifetime fill of Alan Boston." "We did have to cut some stuff from the interview. We were at risk of some stuff." - Rob (lol). "He's a cartoon at this point."
2) Ep 131 - Cizzle - "The guy has been running the same bit, it's been like 15 years." "How many times can you go to the Clay Travis / JMac well?" Rob brings up the point I was going to make - Cizzle is a lawyer by trade, the discussion on can you sue a tout was interesting to me as well. (Cizzle is one of us #cville, super nice guy who once reached out to me to get me some BTC legal seminar info without me asking. The criticism is fair. I think it's "important" work for the normies especially as Travis transitions into whatever he is now outside of sports, but I'm out - on my deathbed I'm not going to be thankful I consumed JMac and Travis content.) (Sidenote - no one should care about this content either, I stopped posting reviews, no one cared.)
3) Ep 123 - Sharky Waters Nation - "Very likely not a winning bettor." Content creator, "after 15-20 minutes I didn't really know where to go with that episode".
4) Ep 12 - Harout - Rob knew the guy prior, but the interview was horrible. "He promoted his group and tried to get accounts for half an hour."
5) Ep 63 - Derek Stevens - "It just turned into an infomercial, hard to get out of that."
6) Ep 104 - Kevin Davis - "Worst timed interview." Brought him on the show to promote his content, a week later he resigned from The Hammer Network.
7) Ep 47 - Ed Feng - "He's just boring to listen to." - Knish
8) Ep 147 - Corbie Craig - "One I wasn't super into." (This was terrible, very rare miss for CO.)

"The Shipper Tier" - Would Like More If ... Tier
1) Ep 28 - PlusEV - didn't sound like a complaint, was more Knish didn't understand all of the topics covered.
2) Ep 53 - Hitman - "I'd like it more if it wasn't Hitman."
1:25:00 - Rob - "I haven't disliked too many people when we have had them on." Does mention Gambling Frank Costanza and Shipper (lol).
3) Ep 39 - Adam Chernoff - "He can be kind of annoying." - Knish (lol).

1:27:00 - Spanky Situation: Recording was just after the situation broke, so no comment (which ended up being VERY smart).
1:27:50 - Tailgate Tent vs Knish: "Nothing more brutal than every Monday evening the clowns at HTB obliterating markets with 3 shops open with penny limits for 65 viewers." Think both Knish and Rob answer this pretty well and cover the basic arguments about hitting markets early & they understand the frustration around this issue.
1:36:50 - Redacted Gambler: Brings up the March Madness ball angle tweet. 1:39:00 - So I had heard about this in the RAS refugee Discord and Rob makes the point I was going to make here. Rob states very accurately that a few people have very publicly talked about this angle before and he mentions Drew D. The DMs that are posted are dated Mar 20, 2024 ... which so happens to be the same day that Drew and Andy talk about it on their Deep Dive episode that I reviewed. Thought it was addressed 100% correctly & Drew mentioned in the response in addition to some clarification on the timing of the *full* DM conversation "which is why the screenshot is the way it is". Non-issue imo.
