Notes:
Episode with their product testing experts Jimmy & Danny from Eilers.
I like this episode for one very important reason to me that others probably don't care at all about. I like hearing some of the negative feedback on apps that I am less familiar with so I am consciously aware of some of the UI/UX pitfalls I might encounter to limit my execution mistakes. A lot of you might not care, I do because I consider execution a piece of the larger puzzle.
1:45 - Part of their testing framework is basically "does the app do or not do certain things" so one thing that's harder to capture is do users just like the app? Have found that sometimes there's big discrepancies between the matrix scores and this "user feel" score. Caesars scores okay on matrix, but testers like the aesthetics, feel, sleekness. "They don't like the swipe up mechanic." Conversely, Tipico checks most matrix boxes, but testers hate the app.
5:45 - Mentions that BetMGM has improved their SGP offering. (Not my wheelhouse, curious to hear if anyone agrees there). BetMGM's issue continues to be with button response / jag, more prominent on Android than iPhone for multiple years. "It's a heavy app, many markets."
9:45 - Deposits/Withdrawals: "Withdrawals not as good as deposits." (shock). "This is obviously a trust issue." "Offering cash/stake cashback, place 1 bet, you're able to cash out is very important to trust." Testers are expecting to see more payment options, Apple Pay, Venmo, Skrill. Deposit vs Withdrawal minimums disconnect leads to negative perception.
13:30 - Fanatics: Like the UX, easy to navigate. Biggest complaint is the home screen, "feels unfocused and random, completely different every time", cluttered, info not customized to user, more social feed. Diversive is the "Fan Cash" causing some confusion among some users. Limited differentiation. Account screen has two very large banners taking up too much screen real estate.
16:45 - ESPN product. Down to 11th in their rankings, under Barstool (met with laughter). Suffers from high expectations due to the brand. Missing features. No live streaming, limited data viz. Betslip cumbersome, odds changes weren't communicated clearly (this seems like a very big one to me, I actually don't have any experience yet with this app), difficult to remove the betslip once the odds changed. ESPN does benefit from "some built-in trust". App foundation is strong, just nothing else is there. "Feels like Step 0.5 of Step 1 to get the app into a good spot." Very blocky, a lot of white space, speeds slow (similar to MGM), issues editing the betslip.
19:45 - Bet365: Betting interface, live betting is very good. Not as good in the core/aesthetics, but the app scores very well. App feels a little eurocentric still, but getting better. Bet365 a little daunting for the average bettor, but they do a lot very well.
20:45 - BetRivers: Down a few spots since last report, mostly due to a "static app", limited improvements, "app feels the same, feels old". Button size issues, font size issues. Bettors do like the market depth on the app. BetRivers another app that does well on the feature matrix, but testers have a large gap in not liking the app.
